Rob Heller
Theatre Director
I specialize in developing new work and am the co-founder and served as the Artistic Director of CDP (Collaborative Development Production) in residence at Graduate Musical Theatre Writing (NYU) from 2011-2017. I have helped to produce and develop over 50 new plays and musicals and continue to nurture and grow new theatre.
I have also directed for several premiere theatre schools including the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and Indiana University.
Theatre Educator
I am currently part-time faculty at Montgomery County Community College where I teach Acting, direct for the department and serve as a student advisor. Previously I taught at Indiana University, New York University, and University of Texas South West. He has taught Acting, Directing, Musical Theatre, Theatre History, Acting for New Plays and Musicals, and Movement Theory for Actors and Directors.
I have taught a variety of age groups including young students as a Teaching Artist and Directing Specialist for the Metropolitan Opera Guild and as a Theatre Specialist for both ESF Summer Camps and Oasis Summer Camps.
Theatre Dramaturg
In addition to directing and teaching I also serve as a freelance Dramaturg specializing in moving writers from early drafts through the revision process and preparing them for a workshop. It is my goal to help playwrights navigate the often complex journey of realizing a play for the first time.
I have worked with individual writers, theatre companies, and festivals and in all cases serve as an advocate for the importance of new work and supporting playwrights.
